Neuropsychological testing involves a comprehensive assessment of thinking and behavior that is designed to get a better understanding of a child’s unique pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Areas assessed may include: intelligence, academic achievement, language, attention, learning and memory, visual perceptual skills, motor abilities, the ability to plan, organize and solve problems (executive functions), and social and emotional functioning. Understanding a child’s cognitive profile is critical to developing effective intervention strategies that utilize his/her strengths to improve or compensate for weaknesses.
